The ‘Klein Wien’ or Little Vienna, also dubbed city of parks, Timisoara joins Veszprém as a European Capital of Culture in 2023.
The rich heritage earning the moniker is visible as ever, in this historically diverse urban melting pot of East Europe. Bustling cafes, four theatres, leafy parks, a tradition of civic pride and revolt have endured and retained the city’s colours even under long decades of Communism. Light and colour, and the city’s diversity serve as the main themes of the ECoC programme, attesting the city’s dedication to safeguard its future through reinvesting in present values. Young artists willing to experiment, the tastes, sounds and images of a historic city arrive to Veszprém between 27 February and 12 March displaying Timisoara’s past, present and future.
