#14 Kingston

Port city of the Carribean, former trading centre of the British Empire, a capital of one million, crucible of cultures and peoples from which new trends emerge – the rich layers of Kingston are best told through music.

It is the birthplace of reggae, a genre which rose from the slums to go and conquer the whole world. It was inscribed on UNESCO’s intangible heritage list in 2018 as a unique, spiritual and political form of music affecting our hearts and minds, telling the fate of the outcast and dispossessed. A city that gave the world Bob Marley and Usain Bolt, wearing the imprint of its colonial past and the proud history of emancipation, Kingston is a bustling hub of tourism, music and business. Veszprém fittingly hosts the Jamaican capital; its music, food and films, at the height of summer.
